Can you ensure the availability of my wine purchase?

All wines featured in our online store are subject to availability. However, fine wines are not produced on a large scale. Many vintage wines are limited in availability and, when they go out of stock, are usually not replaceable. New vintages and other similar wines replace those that are no longer available. All our wines are stored in a climate-controlled environment, and we take great care in checking the condition of the wine we purchase. However, as is tradition in the wine trade, all bottles over 10 years old, are at the buyer’s risk. Every effort has been made to ensure accuracy, but in the event of a misprint, the price posted in the store will prevail.

Will I be charged sales tax on my wine purchase?

All wines collected or delivered within the state of Michigan are subject to local sales tax (6%), determined by point of delivery. Payment of tax and storage charges, if any, is required prior to release of the wine.

How old do I need to be to purchase and receive any alcoholic commodity?

Buyers must also warrant that he/she is at least 21 years of age, and that the wines will be received by someone that is at least 21 years of age.

When your alcoholic beverages are delivered, the person receiving will be required to show identification proving that he or she is at least 21 years old.

Please note that most states regulate importation of wines, and buyers are responsible for compliance with laws of the state in which wines are to be shipped. Buyers, not Martha’s Vineyard, Ltd., are the owners and shipper of record for all shipments.

Due to federal regulations we can only direct ship alcohol to the following states: Alaska, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Nevada, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Washington DC, Wyoming

Is there a shipping and handling fee for my wine purchase?

All orders containing bottled products (wine, brandy, Pi’s, vinegars, etc.) will be charged a $6 handling fee. All packaging materials are included in your shipping cost.

What carrier do you use to ship my wine?

As your agent, we are pleased to designate the United Parcel Service as the licensed common carrier on your behalf, with various levels of service typically available. However, there are times during which certain methods of delivery are not possible. In that event you will be contacted by us within 24 hours of placing your order (unless your order is placed on Saturday, in which case you will be contacted on Monday).

What materials are my wine or bottled purchase shipped in to avoid breakage?

We use insulated Styrofoam molding to ship your wine. Though a higher cost to us, this molding is the best and insures the highest quality of getting your order to you in the proper condition.

Should I insure my wine or bottled purchase?

Insurance is available for every order. We strongly encourage insurance on all wine orders, so we can properly cover your order for any damage that might occur during shipping. Some items are not replaceable, and can be either substituted or a refund given if damage occurs.

Insurance can be provided at a nominal charge, which will cover solely breakage or loss during shipment. Wines must be inspected by the buyer upon receipt and any loss or breakage must be noted on the Shipper’s documents. Martha’s Vineyard, Ltd. must be notified immediately of any breakage or loss claims. Should this insurance coverage not be desired, a written waiver of insurance and any subsequent claims must be received prior to the shipment of the wines. Without insurance, loss or damage due to any cause will be at the buyer’s risk.

Will there be a time when my shipment may be delayed for any reason?

Transporting wine in extreme weather conditions, even by overnight service, may seriously damage wines. During periods of extreme weather Martha’s Vineyard, Ltd. strongly advises against transport of wines by any means. During these times we are pleased to provide complimentary short-term storage until better conditions prevail. If shipment is requested during periods of extreme weather, the buyer will be required to sign a Shipping Release to free Martha’s Vineyard, Ltd. from any liability for damage incurred to wines shipped during periods of extreme weather.

Where should I have my wine purchase shipped?

When entering a shipping address, we strongly suggest you use a BUSINESS ADDRESS. This insures that you will be able to receive the order at any given time during the day. An adult signature will be required.

We apologize for any inconvenience, but unfortunately, we cannot ship alcohol to PO Boxes or APO/FPO addresses.

How long will it take for my wine or bottled purchase to be processed and shipped?

We attempt to ship all wine orders at the beginning of each week. If the shipping method you select will not be able to arrive to the destination during the same week of the order, we reserve the right to hold your shipment. We can not control the storage conditions in our carrier’s warehouse and do not want your wine orders sitting in their warehouse over the weekend. Your orders are stored in our Temperature Controlled Cellar until they are shipped out. We strongly discourage Ground delivery unless you live in Michigan or are a bordering state. If temperatures are extreme, we may hold your wine order for a period of time until ideal conditions for shipping arise. During the summer and winter months, there are period of times that we only ship via Air Delivery. When you invest in fine wine, Ground delivery is not recommended.

We try to ship out orders on the day in which we receive them, assuming shipping conditions are ideal. But there are instances where your order may not be shipped out due to the volume of orders we receive. All Air shipments receive priority over Ground delivery. If you select 2Day Air delivery, your package might not be delivered in 2 Days, however it will be shipped via 2Day Air. We make every attempt to ship out Air shipments the day they are received, but make no guarantee.

Shipments will be sent prepaid only if payment in good funds is received prior to shipment. During some periods, processing of orders and payments may require up to two weeks.

We reserve the right not to ship to certain states at any give time.

When will I receive my wine or bottled purchase?

Shipment can usually be arranged within 48 hours of receipt of payment and any applicable taxes or permits. It is recommended that buyers collect their wines whenever feasible, as commercial shipment can be risky, especially in the case of older and more fragile wines. Neither Martha’s Vineyard, Ltd. nor its agents can assume responsibility for any deterioration resulting from shipment.

Standard delivery for shipping will arrive within 7 to 10 days, following credit card authorization.

If I live here in Grand Rapids or live in a state that cannot import alcoholic purchases, can I arrange to pick up my purchases at the store?

Purchases may be picked up at our store location during regular store hours. To avoid any possible delays upon your arrival, we ask for 24 hours notice for arrangement of an appropriate time. To arrange a collection/local delivery or for further information please contact us.
